ENDODONTICS

Root Canal Therapy

woman with dental tools in mouth undergoing root canalEndodontic treatment refers to therapies that preserve teeth with damaged nerve tissues. When nerve damage occurs, the tooth will simply fail. However, restoring the tooth from the inside out can allow the tooth to continue functioning for several more years to come.

We may recommend a root canal if you are experiencing or have experienced:

  • An abscessed tooth
  • Severe pain or sensitivity
  • Cracked, broken teeth
  • Deep tooth decay

Unlike many Mesquite dentists who refer their endodontic patients out to a specialist, both Drs. Dumitru and Harris complete most root canal procedures here in our office.

Do They Hurt?

Contrary to rumors, root canal treatments do not have to be painful. We take great pride in the attentive methods used to keep our patients comfortable throughout each and every visit with us – even during endodontic procedures.

During your root canal, we will thoroughly numb the nerve tissues surrounding the tooth. Then, a small opening is made in the tooth, so that the damaged nerve can be removed. Next, the newly emptied chamber and canal inside of the tooth are thoroughly cleaned and medicated, before being completely sealed off.

Sedation dentistry options are also available during your root canal. Your comfort is our top priority.

Some patients do experience mild soreness due to injections or the length of the procedure. We will work closely with you to minimize your discomfort following the treatment.

Restoring Your Tooth

This maintains normal biting capabilities and prevents chipping of the brittle enamel. Each crown is customized to resemble a natural tooth, so that it blends in with your overall smile.

If you suspect that you may need a root canal, please do not hesitate to call our office. In rare circumstances, untreated abscessed teeth have been known to require hospitalization due to spread of infection through the body. We invite you to call us right away so that early steps can be taken to preserve your health.
